The Gulf Coast may not have the crystal-clear visibility of Caribbean waters, but what it lacks in clarity it makes up for in biodiversity and unique underwater landscapes. Artificial reefs created from decommissioned oil platforms have become thriving ecosystems, home to colorful tropical fish, sea turtles, manta rays, and even the occasional whale shark during migration season.
For Beginners: Discover Scuba Program
Never dived before? No problem. Our Discover Scuba program is designed specifically for first-timers and requires no previous experience or certification. The day begins with a two-hour classroom and pool session where you'll learn basic diving theory, equipment familiarization, and essential underwater skills in a controlled environment.
After lunch, you'll board a comfortable dive boat for a short trip to a beginner-friendly dive site. Under the close supervision of a PADI-certified instructor (with a maximum student-to-instructor ratio of 4:1), you'll make your first open water dive to a depth of up to 40 feet. Most first-time divers describe the experience as life-changing.
For Certified Divers
If you already hold a dive certification, we can arrange boat dives to some of the Gulf's most exciting sites. The Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary, located about 100 miles offshore, is considered one of the best diving destinations in North America, featuring pristine coral reefs and an astonishing variety of marine life.
Closer to shore, several artificial reef sites offer excellent diving in 60-100 feet of water. These sites are home to large grouper, snapper, amberjack, and beautiful soft corals. Night dives are also available for the more adventurous, revealing a completely different world of nocturnal marine creatures.
Booking and Rates
All diving excursions include transportation from the hotel, equipment rental, boat fees, and professional instruction. The Discover Scuba program runs $195 per person, while certified diver boat trips start at $145 per person.
